Graduates will demonstrate foundational knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention concepts.
HS 404 Epidemiology: Disease Research AssignmentÂ
During this course I showcased my ability to understand the pathophysiology of different diseases, how to prevent them, detect them, and promote the eradication of them. During my experience in Epidemiology, the COVID 19 pandemic began, providing the class with a special experience of what a disease outbreak can really do. I chose to write a research paper about COVID-19, where it was believed to have come from, and the next steps in dealing with the virus. It was very interesting to research a subject that was being studied at the live time. This was a difficult task to accomplish but it was very rewarding.
HS-410: Healthcare Administration: Healthcare in Canada and The U.S.
In HS-410 I was able to collaborate with my fellow classmates to write a paper comparing and contrasting healthcare in Canada and The United States. This paper was pivotal in assisting me to understand the administrative differences between universal health care and the single-payer system. Along with my classmates, we researched Canadian health care and US healthcare to better understand each individual system and the differences in the ways that healthcare is delivered to each country’s citizens. Prior to this assignment, I did not understand the universal health care system that Canada practices. I now have a much better understanding of this system and I have to say that I believe our country should adopt this system. I also was unaware that we already do practice universal healthcare in the US in the form of Medicare and Medicaid. I learned the subdivisions of medicare and Medicaid such as Medicare A and Medicare B. This information has been a wealth of knowledge as I deal with medical billing questions often at work on the ambulance and It is good knowledge to pass on to my coworkers as well as the patients that I am helping.
HS-404 Epidemiology: Rx For survival
In HS-404 I was able to watch a video series throughout the semester dealing with many different countries and the diseases and health disparities that plague them. While learning about these issues and disparities that other countries experienced we learned about the vaccines that are produced to combat these diseases and disparities. We also learned about the distribution of the vaccines and treatments and the issues that are encountered in this phase. We learned that in some third world countries some of the issues that are encountered are as simple as language barriers, finding workers with adequate transportation, and disease education. Sometimes health workers that are distributing vaccines encounter issues such as religious barriers. I learned that many diseases can be eradicated by solving some issues that seem very simple, yet these issues prove to be quite complicated in third-world countries. This information is applicable to my life as we are currently struggling to eradicate COVID-19. I am always surprised at the level of resistance to the science and research that has gone into eradicating this virus that has caused such damage and dispair to the entire world.
